The
Episcopal Church is rich in tradition and liturgy.
This is a blessing, but it can be confusing for newcomers. If you are not
familiar with the Episcopal worship services, these notes may be helpful.
It's often helpful to
prepare for corporate worship by previewing the Order of Service as listed
in the bulletin and by prayer. Many people kneel and cross themselves at
various times during the service. This is each worshiper's personal
choice. Feel free to do so, or not, as you wish.
All baptized
Christians are welcome to receive the bread and wine at Communion,
regardless of age or religious tradition. Children are invited to come
forward to receive either Communion or a blessing, at the discretion of their
parents. You are equally welcome to remain in your seat. If you
come forward, the priest will serve you the bread ad then a chalice bearer
will serve the wine. The bread is best received on an opened-flat
hand. If you eat the bread as soon as it is served, the chalice bearer
will offer you a sip of wine directly from the large chalice. The cup is
best guided to the mouth by taking hold of the base of the chalice.
Receiving only bread or wine is acceptable as full communion.
We
welcome children
and our expectation is that they worship with their families in church.
A quiet play area is provided in the back of the church for families with
children six and under. Older children are welcome to use a “What Are We
Doing?” pamphlet, available with crayons in the back of the
church.
Please
join us in the Parish Hall for coffee hour
after the 10:30 service.
Visitor
cards are available in the racks of each pew. Place completed cards in the
offering plate or give them to an usher or the priest.
